Got Rhythm? Learn how rhythms can make your Krav Maga more unpredictable.

Using different rhythms in Krav Maga can give you distinct advantages in many different situations. They can help you control the pace of a fight, create opportunities for counters and make you less predictable as a Krav Maga practitioner.

In most organisations, students will have to wait until they are at Graduate levels to learn this tactic. Killer Instinct

From Krav Maga Systems' perspective, to be effective at protecting ourselves, the 'killer instinct' is a quality that we all need to have. It is important to understand that the 'killer instinct' in this case does not refer to your ability to completely end someone. It is the 'x-factor' - that one thing that could be the difference between you surviving or being the victim.

Often when students first start out in Krav Maga training, particularly students who are new to the world of personal protection, they have a few emotional/mental barriers that stop them from switching into the killer instinct mode (or more accurately, being comfortable with it).

The more stressful the situations we find ourselves in, the more emotions tend to take control of your actions. In self-defense, we're inherently dealing with some of the most stressful situations you can imagine. Life and death are determined in what are often very violent encounters with other human beings. They can be a benefit, certainly so for our normal functioning in our everyday lives. They're a large part of what enables us to interface with and understand other living creatures. A few days ago Krav Maga Systems Senior Instructor Kurt Colpan and I returned from our training trip in Israel. It was my second time there, and Kurt's seventh or eighth. For both of us, it was one of the most enlightening experiences we've had. For one, we were tied to an organisation this time around, so we were free, so-to-speak, to get some different perspectives of Krav Maga training from some great Instructors. 

One of the more prominent bits of thinking fodder I received was this: Krav Maga is like a tree trunk. All the organisations and ways of approaching training/teaching are the branches on that trunk.
